Memorial Day Murph – complete

It has been a long week… or more… I feel like I have been on the go forever. Working, flying to Portland, flying home, working, camping in Tennessee… I am tired. Not too tired, however to keep training. I did slack for the few days I was in Portland, but I was back at it as soon as I landed on Wednesday.

I had three tough Crossfit workouts on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday… then a decent hike on Saturday. Rest day on Sunday to recover before my big “Memorial Day Murph” workout.

For time:
Run 1 mile
100 pull-ups
200 push-ups
300 squats
Run 1 mile

I did the running segments on the trails and the rest in shorter intervals; 5, 10, 15 x 20. The last mile run was more of a fast walk than a run. It is tough to run, much less run on trails, after so many squats. I ended up finishing in 64:20.

Although the workout was tough, the point of it on this Memorial Day was to honor those that paid the ultimate sacrifice. I just finished reading the book Lone Survivor by Marcus Luttrell accounting the details of Navy Seal training and a fateful mission in Afghanistan. I would never have made it through the first day of Seal training… I cannot even imagine fighting in a war. The workout was no comparison to what they went through, but it was my little attempt to honor their sacrifice.
